Each listing on this site is one facility that told SAMHSA's national treatment survey (N-SUMHSS) that it runs a program or group for persons with eating disorders. The record gives the facility's name, address, phone and website, plus a set of service details that appear on the listing as attributes.

Here is what each attribute on a listing means.

Levels of care. This is the setting in which the program delivers treatment. SAMHSA's mental-health data records outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential and inpatient. It does not record intensive outpatient separately, so a program that runs IOP may show only outpatient. Residential means the client lives at the facility during treatment. Inpatient means hospital-level, 24-hour care.

Age groups. The ages the program accepts in its SAMHSA record. The options are children and adolescents, young adults, adults and seniors. Empty means the ages are unknown, not that no ages are accepted.

Insurance and payment. The types of payment the facility accepts, taken from its SAMHSA record. Values include Medicaid, Medicare, private health insurance, TRICARE, cash or self-payment, state-financed health insurance, sliding fee scale and payment assistance. Grant and fund lines that are not insurance are not included. Empty means unknown, not none.

Conditions treated. This attribute is not filled from the survey data, because the survey does not name the eating disorders a program treats. A program can add this when it claims its listing. Until then the field stays empty.

Telehealth. Whether the record lists telemedicine or telehealth therapy among the treatment approaches. Empty means unknown.

LGBTQ+ program. Whether the record names a program or group for LGBTQ+ clients. Empty means unknown.

Licence and accreditation. What the SAMHSA record states about the facility's licence or accreditation. The values in the current data are a licensed mental health clinic or center and a Federally Qualified Health Center. The field can also show The Joint Commission, CARF or the Council on Accreditation. Empty means not stated. A listing does not prove a current licence. To confirm one, check with the licensing board in the state where the program is.

Each listing also has a source note. The note names SAMHSA FindTreatment.gov and the date the data was retrieved. Each row also keeps a link to the facility's record in the FindTreatment.gov data export.

This site has a category page for each level of care: inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient programs. Each page shows the listings that report that setting. The main category page shows every program on the site.

A listing on this site is a record, never an endorsement. Confirm the services, hours and insurance with the program before you decide. Ask a doctor or other qualified clinician which level of care fits your situation. In a medical or mental health emergency, call 911 in the US, or call or text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Questions

Why are conditions blank on some listings?

SAMHSA's N-SUMHSS survey records that a program serves persons with eating disorders but does not name the specific conditions it treats. A program can confirm the conditions it treats when it claims its listing.

Where does the insurance information come from?

From the program's SAMHSA record. The survey lists the payment types each facility accepts. Empty means unknown, not that the program takes no insurance.
